From the Pastor's Study-
Elsewhere in this newsletter is an appeal for workers for highway litter pick-up and recycling. So why is the Parish involved in these projects, anyway?
Paul, when he wrote to his churches, encouraged them to make positive contributions to their communities (Gal. 6.10, Ro. 13.1-7). As a brand new group they were to be careful about their relations with their neighbors and friends. A good reputation would help them gain a respect for their message and way of life.
By keeping a section of highway clean and by providing the service of recycling we are making a contribution our New Albany community. We hope that by showing this sort of care we may also gain a hearing for our message.
Making disciples for Jesus Christ is still our prime directive; and that means a lot more than just being good citizens. But it does not mean being less than good citizens, either.
Pastor Ron Troup

Your Help Is Needed!
The Parish is looking for workers for two community service projects.
First, we need to pick up litter on our section of U.S. 220 south of town. Scheduled date is Saturday October 14 starting at 9:00 A.M. We will be finished by noon.
Second, the youth groups have dwindled and are unable to handle the recycling. We need people to work mornings the third Saturday of the month.
You can sign-up on the folder in morning worship, or call the office to volunteer.

Memorial Dedications, October 29
The New Albany United Methodist Church initiated the Garden of Remembrance with memorial trees, shrubs, and blower beds as a special project. Names of those so remembered or honored will be inscribed in the Book of Living Memory. A copy of the pages from this book will be enclosed in a time capsule which should not be opened for one hundred years. The project is to be finalized on the last Sunday of October, the 29th.
Some people have indicated their desire to have names included. If you have not yet done so, there is still time; please contact Mrs. Esther Keeney (PO Box 140, New Albany, PA 18833; 363-2523).

Bike-a-thon Report
I want to thank everyone in the church for their support in the St. Jude's Bike-a-thon. We had 16 riders and collected over $800. Everyone rode several hours- stopping once in a while for a drink or cookie. The parents had a great time also- cheering their children on.
Again, thank you for all your support!
